Charlie

Charlie has been practising Pilates since she was a teenager. Following her diagnosis with MS in her late 20s she was advised by her Neurologist to do more Pilates.

Charlie says
"and so my love affair with Pilates began. I became a qualified Instructor IN 2014, specialising in both mat work and Reformer Pilates. I have no doubt that carrying out regular Pilates has helped me deal with the challenges that MS throws at me. I use my experience and passion in Pilates to help others access the huge potential that it can offer. With a loss of muscle control, muscle fatigue and muscle stiffness regular practice on the Reformer has helped my body cope and I can’t imagine where I would have been without it, I owe the Reformer machine a lot."

What is a reformer?

Reformer Pilates began when Joseph Pilates developed reformer exercises in an internment camp during the first World War to help assist with many of the patients who were bed bound.

He attached springs to the bed to help patients engage in resistance exercises without having to stand. The modern Reformer is a bed like frame with a carriage on wheels that allows the bed to roll along the frame.

The carriage is attached at one end with different strength springs which, along with the addition of hand and leg loops, enable the participant to engage muscles often underworked in other forms of exercise as well as working the larger muscle groups. Pilates Reformer is safe and effective for everybody and can be adapted to suit all levels.

Benefits of Reformer Pilates help improve

  • Overall fitness

  • Strength

  • Flexibility

  • Balance

  • Posture

  • Quality of life

  • Blood circulation

Reformer Pilates is a brilliant way to improve your overall health and fitness and maintain good movement and is effective in increasing bone density

With more flexibility you have better blood circulation, this benefits your heart which in turn helps your lymphatic system to clear toxins in the body. It can also help with your mental well-being.

Reformer pilates helps to make your nervous system more healthy which in turn helps your internal body awareness which stimulates the autonomic nervous system, this heightens the vagus nerve function, a nerve from your brain whose main role is to promote relaxation and stress reduction.

Testimonials

I’ve been having Pilates reformer sessions with Charlie for nearly two years now.  It’s the only form of formal exercise that I’ve ever enjoyed and therefore continued . I have really felt the benefits, feeling stronger,  with increased stamina and flexibility.  It’s great as now I’m a nanny this means I can  still get up off the floor easily with a grandchild in my arms. Charlie is lovely and encouraging and adapts her routine beautifully to suit .  I would highly recommend her sessions

Ginny

I booked my first reformer class a few months ago with no idea what it involved or what to expect. As a total beginner Charlie patiently took me through various movements and I was hooked! Within weeks I felt physically stronger and started noticing that the exercises I couldn’t do at the beginning are now part of my routines. I always look forward to my reformer classes. Charlie makes them fun and gives me the confidence to try movements that I didn’t think I could do

Jenny

I  began pilates reformer 1-2-1’s with Charlie in February 2023. I always look forward to my sessions; Charlie is friendly, fun and kind. My body seems to be forever throwing up different issues and Charlie takes it all in her stride. Her knowledge allows her to personalise my sessions and offer me modifications if I am unable to perform a certain move. I always leave with a smile on my face and feeling like I have worked hard! I look forward to joining her group reformer classes
